Intraoral Camera
At South Carolina Dental Center, we use small cameras right inside your mouth to take highly magnified digital photos of your teeth. These photos can be displayed on a computer screen for both patient and doctor, and are invaluable in diagnosing and recording dental problems.  Intra-oral photos also allow our patients to view what the dentist sees when they are evaluating your teeth.

Digital X-Rays
Digital radiography is the latest way to take and evaluate x-rays. With digital x-rays, less radiation is needed to produce high-quality images. These images can then be evaluated on a large flat-screen monitor. This allows for easier detection of any problems. With such a large image, it is also easier for patients to see and understand what is happening with their teeth.

Laser Cavity Detector  (Diagnodent)
A cavity can be repaired much more easily in it's earliest stages, often without the need for anesthetic. At South Carolina Dental Center, we use a specialized laser to detect cavities in the pits and grooves of teeth long before they could be found with traditional techniques. With this state-of-the-art instrument, called DIAGNODENT, we are able to keep teeth healthy and natural with early intervention.

Mercury Free Restorations
South Carolina Dental Center replaces old amalgam fillings with mercury-free ones.  Amalgam (silver) fillings contain mercury.  Mercury is a toxic poison, and mercury-based fillings are unattractive. If you are planning to have your silver fillings replaced, you'll want to get the new improved filling material that match the color of your natural teeth and does not contain mercury.

Drill-less Dentistry
South Carolina Dental Center uses an exciting new technology called
Air Abrasion, which helps avoid the use of needles and an uncomfortable numb feeling. It removes the smallest possible amount of tooth structure, and enables your dentist to place strong natural looking restorations in only a few minutes.

Air abrasion involves the use of a special hand piece that creates a beam of abrasive particles propelled by a stream of clean, dry air.  Air abrasion is most effectively used for small early cavities, removal of stains, repair of small chips, and to repair or replace fillings.

Prophy-Jet
South Carolina Dental Center uses Prophy-Jet, which is an air polishing prophylaxis system which uses air/water/sodium bicarbonate slurry to remove stains, soft debris and dental plaque while polishing tooth surfaces.

Prophy-Jet is recommended for cleaning tooth surfaces prior to bonding procedures and placement of dental sealants. It is also very effective in use on patients wearing orthodontic appliances.

Panoramic X-Rays
South Carolina Dental Center incorporates the use of Panoramic X-rays, which allows them to see the entire structure of your mouth in a single image. Within one large film, panoramic X-rays reveal all of your upper and lower teeth as well as parts of your jaw.
